Kevin Lewis Owner of Sport Clips Greenville SC

Former New York Giant-turned business owner Kevin Lewis is featured in the February 2009 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. Lewis, who opened two Sport Clips men and boy’s hair care franchises in Greenville, was interviewed by the magazine’s Jennifer Wang for the article profiling his transition from professional athlete to franchisee.

Lewis spent six years as a linebacker with the Giants after playing college football at Duke University. He grew up in Orlando, but says he wasn't a child who dreamed of football as a career. He said the natural progression for him after his days on the football field was to look into owning his own business.

Lewis sought franchising as a business option, first considering restaurant chains. A source then led him to Sport Clips, the nation’s largest hair care franchise dedicated to men and boys. With 600+ stores across the country, Lewis’ signed on as a Team Leader, or franchisee, with a three store commitment. Two of the three are open at Pelham Crossing, 3915 Pelham Rd and the Target Shopping Ctr. at 1106 Woodruff Rd.

Lewis and his wife, Tameika, an OB/GYN physician, chose Greenville as their home following her medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC.)

For the profile, Lewis answered questions regarding his choice of franchise options and the success of his Sport Clips franchises. To date, roughly 10 percent of the targeted market surrounding his stores has experienced hair care services there, including the company’s signature MVP Treatment of steamed towel and neck and shoulder massage.
